Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (500g)
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- ½ cup granulated sugar (100g)
- 1 cup warm milk (240ml)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted (60g)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 cup currants or raisins (150g)
- 1 cup icing sugar (120g)
Instructions
- Prepare the dough by combining warm milk and sugar in a large bowl. Stir in yeast and let it sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
- Gradually add flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until combined. Knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Gently fold in currants or raisins and place the dough in a greased bowl. Cover and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough, divide into 12 equal pieces, shape into balls, and place on a lined baking tray.
- Create crosses by mixing flour with water to form a paste and piping it onto each bun.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
