  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (or buttermilk)
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For frosting: 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar until combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add granulated sugar and mix until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time to the butter-sugar mixture, blending well after each addition. Stir in bourbon.
  5. Alternately mix in dry ingredients and milk until just combined; do not overmix.
  6. Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with batter and bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. While cooling, beat cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth. Frost cooled cupcakes generously.
