Ingredients

For the Cod
  • 4 fillets cod fresh or thawed
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
For the Garlic Butter Sauce
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika optional for color

Method

Prepare the Oven and Baking Dish
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This ensures that the cod cooks evenly and thoroughly.
  2. Grease a baking dish with a little butter or cooking spray to prevent the fish from sticking.
Season the Cod
  1. Place the cod fillets in the greased baking dish.
  2. Sprinkle salt and black pepper evenly over the fillets. This will enhance the flavor of the fish.
Make the Garlic Butter Sauce
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, lemon juice, and paprika. Whisk until well combined. This sauce will infuse the cod with rich flavors.
Bake the Cod
  1. Pour the garlic butter sauce evenly over the seasoned cod fillets.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cod is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. The cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the fillets.
Serve
  1. Remove the cod from the oven and let it rest for a couple of minutes before serving. This allows the juices to redistribute.
  2. Serve the cod hot, drizzled with any remaining garlic butter sauce from the baking dish.

Notes

For best results, use fresh cod fillets. If using frozen, ensure they are completely thawed and patted dry before seasoning.
