Method
Prepare the Cold Brew Coffee
In a large pitcher or bowl, combine 1 cup of coarse ground coffee with 4 cups of cold water. Stir gently to ensure all coffee grounds are saturated.
Cover the pitcher or bowl and let it steep in the refrigerator for at least 12 hours. This slow brewing process extracts the coffee's rich flavors without bitterness.
After steeping, strain the coffee through a fine mesh sieve or coffee filter into a clean pitcher to remove the grounds.
Make Simple Syrup (Optional)
In a small saucepan, combine equal parts sugar and water (1 cup each). Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Allow to cool before using.
Store any leftover simple syrup in the refrigerator for up to a month.
Assemble the Iced Coffee
Fill each tall glass with ice cubes. For a stronger flavor, consider using coffee ice cubes made from leftover cold brew.
Pour the cold brew coffee over the ice, filling each glass about two-thirds full.
Add 1/2 cup of milk to each glass, adjusting to taste. Stir gently to combine.
Add 1 tablespoon of simple syrup to each glass, or adjust sweetness to your preference. Stir again to mix well.
If desired, top with whipped cream and sprinkle with cocoa powder or cinnamon for added flavor.
For a stronger coffee flavor, use coffee ice cubes made from the cold brew. You can also experiment with flavored syrups or add a splash of vanilla extract for a twist.
