Method
Prepare the Apples
Peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces. This helps them cook down faster and ensures a smoother texture.
Place the chopped apples into a large pot.
Cook the Apples
Add the water and lemon juice to the pot with the apples. The water creates steam, which helps soften the apples.
Cover the pot and cook over medium heat for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. The apples should become soft and break down.
Blend the Applesauce
Once the apples are soft, remove the pot from heat. Allow it to cool slightly.
Using a blender or food processor, blend the apples until smooth. If you prefer a chunkier texture, blend less.
Season the Applesauce
Return the blended applesauce to the pot. Stir in the cinnamon and sugar, adjusting the sweetness to your taste.
Cook for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Cool and Serve
Remove from heat and let the applesauce cool to room temperature.
Transfer to jars or containers and refrigerate. Homemade applesauce can be stored in the fridge for up to one week.
Notes
